Best Friend Dog Park Rules

  1. Pet owners are SOLELY responsible for the behavior of their animals. The City of Huntington Beach and the Best Friend Dog Park Foundation have no responsibility or liability whatsoever for anything that results from any confrontation, violent or otherwise, between/among dogs in the dog park.

  2. Pet Owners and other visitors to the dog park are SOLELY responsible for their own behavior. Neither the City of Huntington Beach nor the Best Friend Dog Park Foundation have any responsibility or liability whatsoever for anything that results from any confrontation, violent or otherwise, between/among pet owners and other visitors to the dog park.

  3. All dogs entering the dog park must have a current license.

  4. All dogs entering the dog park must have current vaccinations.

  5. Female dogs in heat are strictly forbidden entry into the dog park.

  6. The dog park is an off-leash facility. Dogs should be on-leash ONLY when entering or leaving the dog park. If your dog cannot be relied upon to behave off-leash, then you should not bring the dog into the dog park.

  7. Owners of small dogs are encouraged to use the small dog side of the park, since small dogs are frequently seen as prey by the large dogs. The dog park’s signage advises that courts have ruled that the owner of a large dog is not liable for injuries done to a small dog if a small dog area was available for the small dog’s use.

  8. Large dogs that are handicapped are welcome to use the Small Dog side of the dog park, provided they can interact gently with the small dogs.

  9. The dog park’s signage advises that, if any particular dog is displaying excessive aggressiveness, and if the consensus of the other users present in the park is that the offending dog should leave, the owner of the offending dog should leave without any discussion.

  10. Food of any kind, including dog treats, is strictly prohibited in the dog park.

  11. No alcoholic beverages are permitted inside the dog park.

  12. Never run inside the dog park. Leave the running to your dog.

  13. Persons under the age of 18 may not enter the dog park unless accompanied by a person 18 years or older.

  14. For their own protection, small children should always remain within arm’s reach of the adult who is accompanying them. To some larger dogs, smaller children appear as prey.

  15. Climbing the trees and swinging from the supports of the canopies located throughout the dog park is strictly prohibited.

  16. Each pet owner is responsible for promptly collecting and disposing of the feces deposited by that owner’s pets. Poop bags are provided free of charge throughout the dog park.

  17. The dog park is an off-leash facility. However, when you leave the dog park, the City of Huntington Beach requires that you put your dogs on-leash. Dogs are not permitted off-leash in Huntington Central Park, or in any other part of the City, with the exception of the Huntington Dog Beach.

  18. The dog park is located adjacent to several residential areas. Please be mindful that the dog park's neighbors are entitled to be disturbed by as little noise as possible. Please do your best to be good dog-owning citizens.
